Nineteen-year-old Indian outside hitter Aman Kumar averages 18 points per match and ticks all the boxes in efficiency and success when it comes to his contribution to the team in terms of offence and defence at the 2023 FIVB Volleyball U21 Men’s World Championship.

India may not have won a match yet, but the Kumar and the other team members are facing the challenges head on and giving all their opponents a tough time.

So far the Indian team have managed to snatch a set against stronger teams like Bulgaria, Poland and Canada, and conceded in a five-setter against hosts Bahrain.

“I could only see ourselves improving our skills and gaining more experience in this tournament. Our team may not be winning, but we have been playing very well. This is something positive for us, and we like it,” Kumar said.

Kumar explained that India has been very active in its participation to continental and world events in the last couple of years, with the aim of achieving greater feats.

“The reason we are now more visible in competitions is to improve our world ranking and hopefully become one of the best teams in the world,” Kumar shared.

“We have to help out and do it step by step. The first step would probably be to compete in age-group competitions such as this one, the U21 World Championship, and then compete in senior competitions.”
