Two months after giving Italy their first-ever Olympic gold medal, 12 of the 13 players who represented the country at the Paris Games will return to national competition with the start of the 2024-2025 Lega Volley Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà this weekend.

The opening weekend of the 80th edition of the Italian League will have seven matches between Saturday and Sunday, all of which streamed live for VBTV subscribers around the world.

The first match of the season will be held on Saturday, at 20:30 local time (18:30 GMT), when, led by Olympic champion opposite Ekaterina Antropova, Savino Del Bene Scandicci will host Honda Olivero Cuneo in Firenze.

Sunday’s match schedule will begin at 16:30 local time (14:30 GMT), in Villafranca Piemonte, with five Olympic champions on the court as Wash4Green Pinerolo, of setter Carlotta Cambi, welcomes Numia Vero Volley Milano, who feature setter Alessia Orro, opposite Paola Egonu, outside hitter Miriam Sylla and middle blocker Anna Danesi.

Three matches will start at 17:00 local time (15:00 GMT) and one of them will have Il Bisonte Firenze playing at home against Megabox Ondulati Savio Vallefoglia, of Olympic champion outside hitter Gaia Giovannini.

At the same time, Bartoccini – Mc Restauri Perugia will return to the Italian elite against Bergamo in Perugia while Smi Roma Volley meet Cda Volley Talmassons Fvg, who will play their first-ever match in the country’s top division, in the Italian capital.

At 17:30 local time (15:30 GMT), two other Olympic champions will be on the court as outside hitter Loveth Omoruyi and libero Illaria Spirito will help their team Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri ’76 against Igor Gorgonzola Novara.

Conegliano play in the last match of the week

The debut of Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano, the winners of the last six editions of the Lega Femminile, will end the opening week. Featuring Olympic champion middle blockers Sarah Fahr and Marina Lubian and libero Monica De Gennaro, the Panthers will be at home, in Villorba, against Eurotek Uyba Busto Arsizio, at 18:00 local time (16:00 GMT).

The Lega Femminile regular season will go from October 5 to March 1, 2025, with the best eight teams advancing to the playoffs. The postseason will be split into three rounds, with the quarterfinals being held in a best-of-three format from March 7-19, the semifinals following with best-of-five series going from March 22-April 13 and the Finals, also held in up to five matches, taking place from April 16-27. The Lega Femminile will also qualify three teams to the CEV Champions League, one to the CEV Cup and one to the CEV Challenge Cup.
