BKS BOSTIK ZGO Bielsko-Biała and Lotto Chemik Police met for the second time in the season on Sunday, in the fourth leg of the Tauron Liga, and, as it had happened in the season-opening Polish Supercup, less than a month ago, Bielsko-Biała came out on top.

The result didn't change Bielsko-Biała's position in the standings as the team continues in sixth place despite adding two points with their five-set victory, which elevated their total to six, while Chemik passed two opponents with the extra point collected, now appearing in eighth place, with three.

If in the Supercup Bielsko-Biała dominated the match from start to finish to take the title with a sweep, this time things played out differently as Chemik battled hard before falling in the tie-breaker (25-15, 18-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-12).

Starting her second season with the team, Estonian opposite Kertu Laak made a difference for Bielsko-Biała, producing an impressive 28 points (22 kills, four blocks, two aces) for them. Italian outside hitter Giulia Angelina also had a solid display, with 18 points (16 kills, two blocks).

“We are very happy with the victory,” setter and captain Julia Nowicka said. “It’s not easy to win matches when things aren't going well and you don’t feel 100% confident in some areas of the game. I felt we had many ups and downs and weren’t very patient, which was one of our strengths last season, but still managed to win, which is a good thing.”

Chemik had outside hitter Anna Fiedorowicz and middle blocker Dominika Pierzchała as their main scorers with 21 and 18 points, respectively.

Budowlani continue at the top

On Saturday, league leaders PGE Grot Budowlani Łódź kept their perfect campaign in the Tauron Liga, beating 12th-placed Sokół & Hagric Mogilno 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-14) at home with 17 points scored by outside hitter Karolina Drużkowska. Budowlani now have 12 points, with four victories.

The fourth leg started on Thursday, with the 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-19) victory of third-placed ŁKS Commercecon Łódź over ninth-placed ITA TOOLS STAL Mielec on the road. On Saturday, second-placed KS DevelopRes Rzeszów also got a three-set (25-14, 25-16, 25-18) road win, overcoming tenth-placed Metalkas Pałac Bydgoszcz.
