Canada

Head-to-Head

· Canada and Dominican Republic met three times in major world level tournaments (FIVB Volleyball Nations League, Olympic Games, FIVB Volleyball World Championship, FIVB Volleyball World Cup, FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix and FIVB Volleyball World Grand Champions Cup). The Dominicans won twice and the Canadians once.

· Canada defeated Dominican Republic 3-0 in their first world level meeting, at the 1978 World Championship.

· Dominican Republic won their last two world level meetings: 3-1 at the 2010 World Championship and 3-0 in the 2016 World Grand Prix.

· The Dominicans defeated Canada 3-1 in the North American qualification tournament for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Dominican Republic finished first in this round robin tournament and qualified for the Olympic Games (Canada third).

· These nations also met at the most recent Pan American Games, in 2019. Dominican Republic won in straight sets in the group stage.

Canada

· Canada lost both of their first ever Volleyball Nations League matches, 3-1 against Brazil on Tuesday and 3-0 against United States on Wednesday.

· Argentina (2018), Dominican Republic (2018), Italy (2018) and Bulgaria (2019) are the only nations to lose each of their first three VNL matches.

· Canada has now lost seven of their last eight matches in major world level tournaments, with the only exception a 3-1 victory over Cuba in the 2018 World Championship.

· Kiera Van Ryk (26) won the most points for Canada this VNL campaign. She was also part of the Canadian team in the 2018 World Championships as a 19-year-old.

Dominican Republic

· Dominican Republic lost their first two matches of the 2021 Volleyball Nations League in straight sets: 3-0 against United States and Brazil.

· No nation has ever lost 3-0 in each of their first three matches of a VNL campaign.

· In the VNL 2018, Dominican Republic had a run of four consecutive losses in straight sets.

· Gaila Ceneida Gonzalez Lopez (16) won the most points for Dominican Republic this VNL campaign. She was part of Dominican Republic's team in each of the last eight editions of the World Grand Prix/VNL (2013-2021).
