A Spanish-speaking country with an estimated population of 120 million, Mexico is known for its pre-Columbian treasures, distinctive cuisine, beautiful beaches and diverse landscape of mountains, deserts and jungles.
Mexico's international volleyball history stretches back to 1955 when the country won silver at the Pan American Games in Mexico City. It later claimed bronze in the 1959 and 1975 editions of the competition and won three silver medals and two bronzes at NORCECA Championships.
The North American country has made five appearances at FIVB Volleyball World Championships over the years, with a 10th place in 1974 its best result, but has participated only twice since 1982.
Mexico won the Men’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Mexico City to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, ending a 48-year absence from the competition, but failed to progress beyond the pool round in Brazil.

The city and municipality of Leon in the state of Guanajuato are home to over 1.5 million people. Famous for its leather industry, Leon is also known as the ‘Capital of Shoemaking’. The city features a wide range of hotels, sporting facilities and convention centres, and is home to a huge volleyball fanbase.
Host Venue: Domo de la Feria
The Domo de la Feria is a 5000-seat indoor arena located in the city of Leon. Built in the 1980s, it is used primarily for basketball events, but has welcomed numerous sporting events including boxing and volleyball. It also serves as the venue for cultural events like the annual Feria Leon. It welcome the Finals of the World League 2017 - Group 3, that saw Estonia win the last edition of the FIVB Competition.
