Host City: Matosinhos
Matosinhos is a Portuguese coastal city with a population approaching 200,000, lying within the greater Porto area. The area where Matosinhos is now situated was inhabited since Paleolithic times, but the town grew in importance during the Roman period. The city officially took its name in 1909 and flourished as a sarding fishing and processing centre.
Matosinhos has hosted several world and European volleyball events, including World League matches over the last years. Numerous world and European beach volleyball events have been held on the city's Atlantic beaches.
