The highlight of the 2023 international season, the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship will take place in Mexico from October 6-15 and the teams qualified for the event will get to know their first opponents in the competition for gold on August 30.

The drawing of lots for the 14^th edition of the tournament will be held in Mexico, at 13:45 local time (19:45 UTC), and will be streamed live on the Beach Volleyball World YouTube channel.

Back in Latin America for the first time in 20 years, the World Championship will be held across the Mexican cities of Tlaxcala, Huamantla and Apizaco. With 48 teams in each gender, the tournament will comprise as many as 216 matches – 108 for the men, and 108 for the women.

During the first phase of the tournament, the teams will be split into 12 pools with four teams each and will play in a round-robin format. The top two teams in each pool and the best four teams that rank third in their respective pools will move directly to the Round of 32.

The remaining eight third-placed tandems will play a four-match lucky loser round to fill the last four spots in the elimination rounds. From the Round of 32 forward, the tournament continues on a single elimination format, with the Round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals and medal matches.

Norway’s Anders Mol/Christian Sørum and Brazil’s Eduarda ‘Duda’ Lisboa/Ana Patrícia Ramos are the reigning world champions, having secured the title of the 13^th edition of the tournament, held last year in Rome.

The men's and women's winners of the 2023 World Championship will each earn a spot at the Paris 2024 Olympics to their countries.
