Making their fourth World Championships appearance as partners, the Swiss came very close from winning a medal in Hamburg, in 2019, but had to settle for fourth. In good form after securing their second continental title just two months ago, they expect more tough matches in the elimination rounds.
“Right now, we wait for our next opponents and to see if we’ll have to move to another city,” Brunner reflected. “But, as always, we’ll just try and take it game by game. There’s a lot of good teams here and you always have to play at your best and that’s what we’ll try do to.”
Despite the loss, Tina and Anastasija also advanced directly to the Round of 32, in second place. Ariana and Karelys were third and will need to wait until the completion of pool play to know if they will need to play a ‘lucky loser’ match.
