After consecutive weeks of play in Gstaad, Espinho and Agadir, the international beach volleyball circuit will enjoy a two-week break before the next Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Elite16 tournament in Hamburg, Germany.

The city located in northern Germany will welcome the fifth Elite16 tournament of the Beach Pro Tour's inaugural season, from August 10-14, following other top tier events in Mexico, the Czech Republic, Jurmala, Latvia, and Switzerland.

· The Hamburg qualifiers will be streamed live on the Beach Volleyball World YouTube channel. All main draw matches will be live on Volleyball TV.

The event will mark the return of international beach volleyball to Hamburg for the first time since 2019, when the city hosted the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships, attracting large crowds to the Rothenbaum stadium .

One of the most iconic venues for beach volleyball around the world, the Rothenbaum stadium will be the stage of the five-day tournament, which will offer a total prize purse of USD 300,000.

The tournament in Hamburg will start with the qualifiers on Wednesday, which will see 16 teams in each gender battling for the final four spots in the main draw. Pool play begins on Thursday and continues on Friday, with the quarterfinals and semifinals taking place on Saturday. The last day of the event, Sunday will be reserved for the medal matches.

Although the main draw match schedule will only be completed after the qualifiers, some really exciting matches are already set up for the first day of the event. Reigning world champions Eduarda ‘Duda’ Lisboa and Ana Patricia Ramos of Brazil will clash with Dutch Olympians Raisa Schoon and Katja Stam, who are currently ranked second in the FIVB World Rankings, in one of the opening matches of the event.

A few hours later, Canadians Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes, who secured the 2019 world title at the Rothenbaum, will feature in an exciting duel against compatriots Brandie Wilkerson and Sophie Bukovec, who recently claimed silver at this year’s World Championships in Rome.

Reigning Olympic and world champions Anders Mol and Christian Sorum of Norway will star in one of the most anticipated matches of the men’s tournament opening day against Dutch Olympic medallists Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen. The teams have had epic battles over the last four years, with each winning seven times in their first 14 meetings.

Another Dutch duo set for a memorable opening match in Hamburg is composed of Christiaan Varenhorst and Steven van de Velde. The pair, who recently won bronze in Gstaad, will play against Brazilians Andre Loyola and George Wanderley, who are currently at the top of the World Rankings and took third place at the World Championships in Rome in June.
