The FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship will be played in the Netherlands and Poland from September 23rd to October 15th, 2022. It is the first time in history that the Netherlands will organise a Volleyball World Championship and yesterday it was exactly one year to go before the first game is played at the GelreDome in Arnhem. Reason enough to bring Arnhem into the World Championship atmosphere in a playful way.

Tournament director Manon Nummerdor-Flier, former star player of the Volleybaldames, unveiled a lightning bolt in the centre of Arnhem, together with Jan van Dellen (Alderman for Sport Arnhem) and Jan Markink (Deputy of Sport for the Province of Gelderland).

The bolts are part of the World Championship identity and symbolise how electrifying this mega event is going to be. The first lightning bolt was unveiled on the corner of Beekstraat and Walburgstraat. In total, more than ten bolts will be drawn in the streets in the centre of Arnhem.

“I am very proud that we have brought one of the largest sports events in the world to Arnhem. One more year to go! It feels fantastic to be able to experience this in our city. The World Championship is much more than only a tournament for us. Entrepreneurs, residents, the region: we will all experience the consequences in a positive way. In the run-up to next year, we have launched a campaign on healthy nutrition and staying fit and we are committed to sustainability and long-term cooperation. This, once again, shows that sport is indispensable and can bring a lot to our beautiful city. We are really going to leave behind a legacy!”, said Jan van Dellen.
