In a year's time, the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship 2022 will take place in the Netherlands and Poland. The three Dutch host cities will be Arnhem, Rotterdam and Apeldoorn. At the start of the tournament, all 24 participating countries will play their matches in Arnhem and no fewer than 30 Gelderland municipalities will jointly house the 24 teams. Last Wednesday, these 30 municipalities were appointed Official Team Hosts during a meeting at Palace het Loo in Apeldoorn.

Local social opportunities
The participants from the 24 countries will be housed in 30 Gelderland municipalities (with some neighboiring municipalities working together). Every municipality, in collaboration with the Gelderse Sports Federation, will also contribute to setting up activities for the teams and for the residents. Much of this will be done in close collaboration with local schools, associations, companies and, during the World Championship, also with the visiting country. This should bring benefits both socially and economically.
During the 'One year to go' meeting last Wednesday in Apeldoorn, the 30 Gelderland municipalities officially committed themselves to the World Championship by signing the Official Team Host sign.
The 2022 Women's World Championship is one of the largest sporting events that has ever taken place in the Netherlands. The event has never visited the country before.
Jan Markink, deputy for Sport of the province of Gelderland said: “I am proud that the whole of Gelderland is participating in the World Championship. I am really looking forward to all the energy which will be set in motion, and to the activities in all Gelderland municipalities that house a team. Together we will make it a big Gelderland party and show that Gelderland is the most beautiful province in the Netherlands.”
