Terzić last coached Serbia at the Tokyo Olympics, where the team took bronze

The Serbian women’s national team will have a familiar face in charge when they try to become just the second team to win three world titles in a row at the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship in a few months.

Longtime head coach Zoran Terzić was brought back by the country’s National Federation to lead the squad in the next four years, culminating with the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, it was announced on Thursday.

Terzić, 58, is set to start his second stint with the country’s national team after having an incredibly productive 20-year period with them, earning over 20 medals in international events between 2002 and 2021.

Serbia went to compete in four Olympics under Terzić’s guidance, winning silver at the Rio 2016 Games and bronze in Tokyo, in 2021, his last tournament with the team. The coach also made history by leading the Europeans to their first-ever world title, in 2018.

His run also included bronze at the 2006 World Championship, silver at the 2015 FIVB Volleyball World Cup, three bronzes at the FIVB Volleyball Grand Prix (2011, 2013 and 2017), and three golds (2011, 2017 and 2019), two silvers (2007 and 2021) and one bronze (2015) at the European Championship.

At the club level, Terzić had successful stints in Serbia, Romania, Italy, Russia, Switzerland and Türkiye, most notably taking Turkish side Fenerbahçe to take bronze at the 2021 Club World Championship and the CEV Champions League in the same season. The Serbian is currently working with Dinamo-Ak Bars in the Russian League.

During Terzić’s absence, Serbia were coached by Italians Daniele Santarelli, who led the team to its second world title, in 2022, and Giovanni Guidetti, who had the team finish seventh at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

In 2025, Terzić will have the World Championship as the main goal, but will also compete in the Volleyball Nations League and the European Championship. In his return, he’ll meet many of the pillars of the team he coached, including star opposite Tijana Bošković, outside hitter Bianka Buša and middle blocker Maja Aleksić.
