The other match of the day in Bangkok was way more competitive and had Japan needing all five sets to come back and top Ukraine 3-2 (25-27, 20-25, 25-20, 26-24, 15-11). After the second day of matches, the Serbians, with six points, and the Japanese, with five, are qualified for the Round of 16, while the Ukrainians, with one point, and the Cameroonians, with zero, are set to end their participation in the tournament in pool play.
Bošković started the match against the Cameroonians and scored six points before feeling pain after landing following a block and exiting the match with a right ankle injury during the second set. She got treatment on the bench for the remainder of the match and was cheered on by her teammates after their victory.
Without her, outside hitter Aleksandra Uzelac was Serbia’s most productive player in the match, leading the team with 18 points (16 kills, two aces). Middle blocker Maja Aleksić contributed another 13, with six kills, five blocks and two aces.
“This tournament is a great opportunity for us to enjoy being on the court together and to show what we can do,” Uzelac said after the match. “What we did was enough for today, but we want to play better in the next matches, and we’ll need to do it. We hope it’s nothing serious with Tijana.”
