Paulo Milagres is the new head coach of the Cameroonian women’s national team, which is preparing for the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship coming up in August 2025. The Brazilian trainer takes over the current number 44 in the FIVB World Ranking less than three months before the African team begins its fourth consecutive and fifth overall World Championship campaign.

Milagres is no newbie in African volleyball. During his coaching career so far, he has had periods as head coach of both the women’s and the men’s national teams of Rwanda. At club level, Paulinho has coached teams from his native Brazil, from Poland, from Romania, and most recently from Peru. In March, he steered Alianza Lima to the silver medals at the CSV South American Women’s Volleyball Club Championship and a historic ticket to the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship.
Paulinho arrived in Cameroon together with Luiz Fernando Domingos, the assistant coach he has been working with for many years.
“We are just excited to start this job,” Paulinho told the media upon arrival at the Yaounde airport on Saturday. “I know Cameroon very well. I was here in 2023 and it’s great to be here again, this time working on this side. Then we played a very good match between Rwanda and Cameroon. Cameroon is one of the best teams in Africa, but in my mind, that’s not enough. My wish is to compete at the same level with the rest of the world, not only inside Africa. In 2016, the Cameroonian team was in my city and I met everybody. It was the last time Cameroon was at the Olympics. So we are here to try to conquer all of this again and to lift Cameroon to the position Cameroon deserves.”
Cameroon qualified for the World Champs, set to run from August 22 to September 7 in Thailand, as the bronze medalists of the 2023 CAVB African Championship. So far, they have won one of the 20 matches played at their previous World Championship campaigns, and now Milagres will try to guide them to more wins as they face Japan, Serbia and Ukraine in Pool H action in Bangkok.
