France took the last eighthfinal spot from Pool C at the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship in Thailand. In Tuesday’s deciding match in Chiang Mai, they overcame Greece’s tough resistance to claim a four-set win and

secure a top-two finish in the pool standings. Greece pushed their underdog role to the side and entered the math full force, in full intention to deliver an upset. They won the first set by a wide margin and worked up solid leads in all of the next three, but eventually France held their ground and triumphed with a 3-1 (17-25, 25-21, 28-26, 25-17) victory.

France’s outside hitter and captain Helena Cazaute once again proved a true leader for her team. She led the way with a match-high 22 points, including the off-the-block kill that closed the game in set four. She impressed with five kill blocks, one ace and a 53% success rate in attack. Opposite Iman Ndiaye chipped in with another 19 points, including two blocks and an ace, while the other outside, Amelie Rotar, finished with 13 points.

“It’s amazing! Obviously, this was a goal of ours. We are just proud of each other, proud of how we worked and proud of how we finished this first week,” Ndiaye told VBTV. “It was a very tough game for us, but we remembered we had to focus on our side, do things more cleanly, just play our game and be aggressive. Honestly, I think every single game we play is a learning experience.

“I love playing here! It’s electric!” she added.

21-year-old opposite Martha Evdokia Anthouli once again led the Greek scorers with a total of 21 points. Outside Effrosyni Bakodimou fired two aces to finish with 16 points, while her cross-court teammate and captain Olga Strantzali spiked another 15 at a 52% success rate in swinging. Middle blocker Aristea Tontai also reached the double digits with 10 points, including three kill blocks.
