China and the Dominican Republic, which meet on Wednesday, at 19:30 local time (12:30 GMT), are the two Pool F teams guaranteed in the Round of 16. The winners will play France, with the losers getting on Brazil’s path.

Brazil’s middle blockers were pivotal in their dominant performance, as while Júlia Kudiess led the team with 14 points (eight kills, six blocks), Diana Alecrim added another 13 (eight kills, four blocks, one ace). Outside hitter Júlia Bergmann also got to double digits, ending the match with 11 points (six kills, four blocks, one ace).

“We won three out of three and I’m very proud of the team,” Bergmann said. “We had three tough matches and I’m happy that we managed to win them. Our blocking was excellent today. We were jumping high and pressing them, and our positioning was excellent, too. I loved the atmosphere here in Chiang Mai. Coming into the court gave me chills every day.”

Brazil’s blocking performance did play a big factor in their victory as they outscored the Puerto Ricans in that category by 17 points to five. The South Americans were also better in kills (38 to 24) and aces (three to zero), besides making fewer errors (11 to 17).

On the Puerto Rican side, the outside hitters were the most effective in their last match in the tournament, with Valeria Vazquez producing 11 points (all in kills) and Paola Santiago contributing ten, all in kills as well.

“It was really exciting to be here,” opposite Decelise Champion reflected. “It was a lot of fun, but also very challenging. We have learned how to connect more as a team and play together. We’ll get to the next tournaments with better chemistry and more organized as a team.”
