Six Paris 2024 quota places are up for grabs for the top two teams in each pool, when the Men’s Volleyball Qualifying Tournament takes place from September 30 to October 8 in Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo and Xi’An.

Rio de Janeiro hosts Pool A and the Brazilian team will face tough competition, as reigning world champions Italy, Asian powerhouse Iran, Cuba, Ukraine, Germany, Czechia and Qatar vie for the two available spots.

Pool A features exciting battles especially on the last day, October 8 when super opposites Amin Esmaeilnezhad of Iran face off with Jesus Herrera of Cuba, and when home hero Bruno Rezende meet European silver medalist setter Simone Gianelli to secure the two Olympic spots on offer in the Brazilian capital.

Yuki Ishikawa

The Japanese capital of Tokyo will host Pool B, featuring their home team, 2023 VNL runners-up United States, Slovenia, Serbia, Türkiye, Tunisia, Egypt and Finland.

Japan will be led by their Power Trio – Yuki Ishikawa, Yuji Nishida and Ran Takahashi – who will try to continue their excellent 2023 run after winning bronze at the 2023 VNL and taking the Asian Championship crown.

The Philippe Blain-mentored squad is ready to face strong contenders like USA and Slovenia, who are led by Micah Christenson and Tine Urnaut, respectively.

Pool C hosts China gathers 2023 VNL and European winners Poland, Tokyo 2020 bronze medalists Argentina, Netherlands, Canada, Mexico, Belgium and Bulgaria in the historic city of Xi’An.

Wilfredo Leon will lead the cast of stars in Pool C, including Luciano De Cecco and Facundo Conte of Argentina and young superstar Aleksandar Nikolov of Bulgaria.
