Pool A gathers former Olympic gold medalists and hosts China, reigning world champions Serbia, Dominican Republic, Netherlands, Canada, Czechia, Mexico and Ukraine in the city of Ningbo in the east China’s Zhejiang province.
Serbian superstar Tijana Boskovic will lead her team to clinch one of the two available Olympic spots in Pool A and make its fifth straight appearance at the Olympics in Paris. In the last two Olympic Games editions, Serbia finished with a medal – silver at Rio 2016 and bronze at Tokyo 2020.
Pool B will be at Japanese capital Tokyo, where the host team will welcome two-time Olympic gold medalists Brazil, 2023 VNL and European champions Türkiye, Belgium, Bulgaria, Puerto Rico, Argentina and Peru.
Sarina Koga’s first Olympics was at their home Games in Tokyo. The Japanese star is aiming to follow up on that career accomplishment when she skippers the team to the Pool B qualification competition for a second consecutive Olympic Games appearance.
One of her rivals she will be facing in Tokyo is Türkiye’s sensational opposite Melissa Vargas, who truly amped up the performance of the Daniele Santarelli-led European side. After their two spectacular wins this year, Vargas and her teammates are showing no signs of slowing down and will try to punch their ticket to Paris and be at their third Olympic Games, following Tokyo 2020.
Pool C will be played in Polish City Lodz, with the home team and 2023 VNL bronze winners leading the field, including 2022 VNL champions Italy, three-time VNL winners and reigning Olympic champions United States, Germany, Thailand, Colombia, Korea and Slovenia.
Annie Drews heads the USA squad in Pool C, hoping to get the spot in Lodz and get their chance to defend their Olympic title in Paris next year.
