Competition really heated up today at the Eiffel Tower Stadium and the South Paris Arena 1, with teams vying for sports in the knockout rounds, as honoured guests continued to visit to catch a glimpse of the action.

Volleyball – South Paris Arena 1

A fun-filled day was had by all at the South Paris Arena 1 today to watch the volleyball competition. The Italian Minister of Economy and Finance, Giancarlo Giorgetti, got into the spirit as he watched his country’s side take on Poland alongside Aleksandar Boričić, President of the European Volleyball Confederation and former rower from Italy, Carlo Mornati. Much to their delight, Italy took the win.

Also celebrating this triumph was IOC Member and President of the Italian National Olympic Committee, Giovanni Malagò, (middle) who was able to meet with President of the FIVB Dr. Ary S. Graça F° (left) and Giuseppe Manfredi, President of the Italian Volleyball Federation during his visit.

Despite his side’s loss to Italy, the Minister of Sports and Tourism for Poland, Sławomir Nitras, was in great spirits as he took in the electric atmosphere of the arena.

Beach Volleyball – Eiffel Tower Stadium

His Majesty King Frederik X of Demark today brought a royal touch to the beach volleyball venue during the morning session. He was welcomed to the venue by FIVB General Director Fabio Azevedo.

The Mayor of Rueil-Malmaison and French politician Patrick Ollier was also spotted in the stands today enjoying the beach volleyball ahead of the final rounds of the competition next week.

FIVB General Director Fabio Azevedo also met with former Olympic champion (sports shooting) Abhinav Bindra and a former professional tennis player and currently Head of Sports Excellence & Scouting at JSW, Manisha Malhotra, who were pleased to receive their souvenir replica beach volleyballs during the match.

International Sport Climbing Federation (IFSC) President Marco Scolaris also came to enjoy some of the sporting action today, with Olympic sport climbing not set to kick off until Monday.

FIVB General Director Fabio Azevedo, Chair of Volleyball World Fernando Lima and CEO of Volleyball World Finn Taylor also met with cloudy energy experts, Alibaba who are driving various sustainability initiatives across the Olympic Games in Paris.
