Joanna Wolosz Poland Volleyball Paris 2024

Setter Joanna Wołosz and opposite Magdalena Stysiak will be key players for Poland in Paris

Volleyball Nations League bronze medalists Poland have announced the 13 players that will represent the country’s women’s national team in its return to the Olympics for the first time since Beijing 2008 at this month’s Paris 2024 Games.

Italian head coach Stefano Lavarini has made the decision to include two liberos in his initial 12-player squad - Aleksandra Szczygłowska and Maria Stenzel -, listing outside hitter Olivia Różański as the team’s alternate for the Games.

Given the 16-year gap between the last Polish participation and this one, Lavarini’s entire squad will be made of Olympic rookies. With that, Paris 2024 will mark the first appearance in the Games of several international stars from the country, such as setter Joanna Wołosz, opposite Magdalena Stysiak and middle blocker Agnieszka Korneluk.

Poland have had some success at the international level over the last few years, having won bronze medals at the VNL in both the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Their most recent results elevated the team to fourth place in the FIVB World Rankings.

Besides Poland, Brazil, China, Japan and the United States have also confirmed their rosters for Paris 2024.

Japan, Kenya and Brazil are the first opponents

Drawn into Pool B for the Games, the Polish will have Japan, Kenya and Brazil as their first opponents at the South Paris Arena. Their first match will be against the Japanese, on July 28, at 13:00 local time (11:00 GMT).
