Egypt triumphed as African women’s volleyball champions and earned qualification for Los Angeles 2028 to compete at an Olympic Games women’s volleyball event for the first time in history. Earlier on Friday, Cameroon celebrated the continental bronze medals in Nairobi and claimed Africa’s third ticket to the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup, along with gold medalists Egypt and silver medalists Kenya, who qualified after winning Thursday’s semifinals.
In Friday’s gold medal showdown of the CAVB Women's Volleyball African Nations Championship, in front of the packed stands in the Kenyan capital, Egypt completed their undefeated run through the competition with an emphatic 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-15) shutout of the home team. Their outside hitter Nada Ahmed Houssameldein (Meawad) led the way with a match-high 14 points, including two kill blocks and an ace. Her cross-court teammate Mariam Metwally Mohamed Morsy (Meeto) added another 12. With two aces and a kill block to her name, their counterpart Veronica Adhiambo Oluoch was Kenya’s most prolific scorer with a total of 11 points. Her teammate, 22-year-old middle blocker Elizabeth Marian Sokoiyo, also reached the double digits, signing off with 10 points.
