With the likes of Gabi, Thaisa, Macris and Rosamaria, Brazil will have an experienced roster in Paris

The second-best women’s national team in the FIVB World Ranking, Brazil confirmed the expectations of their fans and will have a strong roster in their attempt to return to the top of the Olympic podium at the Paris 2024 Games.

With several national celebrities announcing the names selected by longtime head coach José ‘Zé Roberto’ Guimarães to represent the country in the French capital in a few weeks, the 13-player squad was completed by the end of the day on Thursday.

Zé Roberto, who has been at the helm of the Brazilian national team since 2003, trusted six members of the squad that took silver at the Tokyo Games three years ago to make another Olympic run – setters Macris Carneiro and Roberta Ratzke, opposite Rosamaria Montibeller, outside hitters Gabriela ‘Gabi’ Guimarães and Ana Cristina Souza and middle blocker Ana Carolina ‘Carol’ da Silva.

Veteran middle blocker Thaisa Menezes, who returned to the national team in 2023 after five years away, is the most experienced member of the roster – the 37-year-old is going to her fourth Olympic appearance after winning gold in Beijing 2008 and London 2012 and finishing fifth in Rio 2016.

The Olympic rookies in the Brazilian squad will be opposites Lorenne Teixeira and Tainara Santos, outside hitter Julia Bergmann, middle blocker Diana Duarte and liberos Nyeme Costa and Natalia 'Natinha' Araújo, who was picked up as the alternate.
