Brazilians and Italians have Poland and Egypt as opponents in Pool B

After facing each other twice in gold medal matches at the Olympics, the volleyball men’s national teams of Brazil and Italy will battle on the opening day of the Paris 2024 Games. With the tournament set to start in just over three weeks, the match schedule was announced, revealing other intriguing duels between the 12 qualified teams in the pool phase.

Three-time Olympic champions Brazil, who defeated Italy in the finals of both the Athens 2004 and the Rio 2016 Games, will meet the Europeans again on July 27, at 13:00 local time (11:00 GMT), at the South Paris Arena, as both volleyball powerhouses start their campaigns in Pool B.

Paris 2024 Men’s Match Schedule

The opening match of the Paris 2024 Games will feature Volleyball Nations League silver medalists Japan and the sensations of last year’s Volleyball Olympic Qualifier, Germany, who will be the first to hit the court in the French capital on July 27, at 9:00 local time (7:00 GMT), in a Pool C duel.

FIVB World Ranking leaders Poland will also be in action on July 27, facing reigning African champions Egypt, at 17:00 local time (15:00 GMT), in Pool B. The first day of competition will be completed with the Pool C encounter between three-time Olympic champions the United States and Tokyo bronze medalists Argentina, at 21:00 local time (19:00 GMT).

Paris 2024 Men's Volleyball Pools

Hosts and defending champions France will play in front of their home fans for the first time on July 28, when they face fellow Europeans Serbia, at 17:00 local time (15:00 GMT), in Pool A. On the same day, rookies Slovenia will play their first-ever Olympic match against Canada, at 21:00 local time (19:00 GMT) – Slovenians and Canadians are in Pool A.

Pool play will continue in Paris for the men for four more days, with matches scheduled for July 30 and 31 and August 2 and 3. The quarterfinals will take place on August 5, with the semifinals being held two days later. The bronze medal match, on August 9, and the final, on August 10, will be the last of the 26 matches (18 pool play encounters, four quarterfinals, two semifinals and two medal matches) set to take place from July 27 to August 10 at the South Paris Arena.

The Olympic volleyball tournaments at Paris 2024 will be conducted under a new format, starting with three round-robin pools of four. The pool winners, the pool runners-up and the two best ranked third-placed teams will advance to the quarterfinals for the start of the single elimination bracket that will lead to the semifinals and eventually to the medal matches to determine the Olympic podium.
