The Volleyball Nations League women’s preliminary round concluded with a lot of fanfare and enthusiasm that will make you even more excited for the Finals. Here are the highlights of the Women's Week 3 that made us go, 'Whoa!'

Like a Boss

The moment we heard Tijana Boskovic’s name playing for Serbia on the third week, we got all excited! Boss-kovic certainly knows how to do things with confidence and authority. The moment she played her first match at the 2023 VNL, she made her presence felt by scoring 25 points and winning against China.

Her performance in the second match was better, scoring 39 points to set a 2023 VNL record for any player, male or female.

By the end of the third week, she had tallied 109 markers in just four matches. Now that’s absolute scoring authority by The Boss!

The Great Gabi Guimaraes

Speaking of making their presence felt, ‘Miss Everything’ Gabi Guimaraes did a whole lot for Brazil in her first match at the 2023 VNL. The 29-year-old Brazilian outside hitter delivered 25 points to help her team overcome Italy in the tiebreaker.

Remember her name: Gaila Gonzalez

Dominican Republic’s left-handed opposite Gaila Gonzalez is on the rise! Her 35-point performance sparked her team’s 3-2 victory over China in Suwon. We already know Brenda, Brayelin and Jineiry, now it’s time to get acquainted with Gaila, who amassed 239 points in 12 matches!

The youngest in VNL’s Class of 2023

There’s something special about Leana Grozer. First, she is only 16 years old and is the youngest player on Germany’s lineup for Week 3. Second, she’s daughter of Georg Grozer, the German legend who once scored 39 points in an Olympic Games match in London and the record-holder of 15 aces in a Korean League match. We trust that with great volleyball genes and the guidance of a great coach like Vital Heynen, this young lady will become a star.

Oh Carol

Carol Da Silva is not the tallest middle blocker, but she is quick, intuitive, and oh-so efficient on the court. Just look at this play where she completely deceived the Italian blockers.

ABCD – A Brenda Castillo Defense

Brenda Castillo’s defensive skills is unmatched because she makes everything effortless – basic and easy – just like this foot save.

Turn the sound ON for Thailand

Listen to the Thai crowd as they cheered for this mega rally between Thailand and Türkiye. Both sides displayed outstanding defense, but in the end the crowd had a reason to get loud because their team scored the point.
