“We are very happy to have Jose Roberto Guimaraes and Renan Dal Zotto for another Olympic cycle. They are two leaders who can keep Brazil among the best teams in the world and play fundamental roles in the development of new talents. The CBV has a long-term vision and their work will also also include looking after younger players,” CBV chief executive officer Adrian Behar said.
Ze Roberto is a three-time Olympic champion. He won his first Olympic gold with the Brazilian men’s team at Barcelona 1992 and was also victorious with the women’s team at Beijing 2008 and London 2012. The 67-year-old tactician has been at the helm of the women’s national team since 2003. In addition to the Olympic podium finishes, which also include a silver at Tokyo 2020, the Sao Paulo native guided the team to nine Grand Prix titles and 10 South American titles.
“It is a new challenge, with a three-year cycle and with great expectations. In Tokyo we were happy because we reached an Olympic final and a significant podium finish. We have several tournaments before the Games in Paris and we have to pay attention to next year’s World Cup and Volleyball Nations League,” Ze Roberto said.
“It will be three years of hard work, with a lot of expectations and preparations.
“I’m proud to represent my country, it is the dream of every coach, athlete and manager. It’s a responsibility I already understand, but there are always new butterflies in my stomach, new expectations. Of course, it’s a great honour.”
Los Angeles 1984 silver medallist Dal Zotto took charge of the men’s team in 2017 and steered Brazil to podium finishes in 10 of the 13 tournaments they have competed in since, like the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Champions Cup, the 2019 FIVB Volleyball World Cup and the three consecutive editions of the South American Championships.
“We have a shorter cycle, starting with the World Championship next year, which is very important. We will have the Volleyball Nations League, in which we can place athletes and this is important for this new cycle. We will do all the work to reach the best possible level for the 2024 Games,” Renan said.
