Russia's depth in the outside hitter position provides them with the comfort to have a seamless transition in scoring from their FIVB Volleyball Nations League inaugural title triumph to defending the title in 2019, when Egor Kliuka shared the spotlight with Dmitriy Volkov and Poland's Bartosz Bednorz as the Best Outside Spikers of the competition.

Kliuka was a junior national team standout before joining the senior team in 2015. He has a powerful touch to the ball on the attack line and service deck that breaks the defence of the opponents. At the 2019 VNL, he showed that type of game and delivered the points needed on the right flank to complete another golden finish. He recorded 162 points in the preliminary round and added 44 markers built from 27 attacks, eight stuff blocks and nine aces in the Finals.
Before playing for his current club Zenit Saint Petersburg, Kliuka played for six seasons (2014-2020) with Fakel Novy Urengoy, bronze medallists of the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship. His move to Zenit Saint Petersburg in the current season produced two silver medals at the Russian Championship and the CEV Cup.
