VNL Promotion-Relegation Process

The VNL promotion-relegation system is determined in accordance with the competition formula 2025 and onwards approved by the VNL Council on 16 January 2024.

VNL 2024
a. No team shall be relegated after the VNL 2024 edition.
b. The winner of the VCC 2024 will be promoted to the VNL 2025.
c. The best team in the World Ranking not yet qualified post VCC 2024 will be promoted to the VNL 2025.

As of VNL 2025 and onwards
a. No more core team status to protect from relegation.
b. 18 teams will be participating as of the VNL 2025 edition and onwards.
c. The last team in the Final Standing will be relegated.
d. The best team in the World Ranking as of the end of the VNL edition and that did not participate in the VNL will be promoted to the next edition. For the avoidance of doubt, the relegated team will not qualify as the promoted team.
