Brazil setter Macris Carneiro sending a message of inspiration by keeping her mask on at the 2021 VNL.

There's strict protocols in place to ensure the health and wellbeing of all involved at the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Nations League in the Italian resort of Rimini, which brings the sport back to life within a secure 'bubble'.

One of the requirements for minimising the spread of the virus is that everyone wear a face mask at all times.

The only exception allowed is for competing players when they are on court.

But this has not stopped some going a step further.

USA's women always warm up with masks on. And Brazil's Macris Carneiro is one of a few players that keep their mask on even while playing.

"I play with my mask on, because the mask protects myself and the people around me and I feel safer with it," said the 32-year-old setter.

But Macris also tries to send a message of inspiration:

"I believe that it's important to wear a mask and respect social distancing during the pandemic. The mask doesn't hinder or bother me when I am on the court and this this is a way I can inspire people to keep wearing their own masks."
