A competition such as the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Nations League, with up to 17 top-level matches within a month places special demands on players who need to be prepared and fit for every game.

The special conditions applicable this year to keep everyone safe and healthy within the bubble that contains the VNL has also put further challenges on participating teams.

"Training, rest and nutrition are the three key elements to keep a team going in this kind of competition," says the Physical Coach of Slovenia, Simone Ade, who have been creating waves at this year's VNL.

"The third match in every three-day is the most difficult," adds the Slovene specialist, "because the muscles are sore."

And this is where fitness comes in.
