Nimir Abdel-Aziz holds the new VNL scoring record after hauling in 43 points in the Netherlands' epic win over France.

Nimir Abdel-Aziz shattered the all-time VNL scoring record as he hauled in 43 points in the Netherlands' epic comeback win over France Tuesday night on the opening day of Week 4 at the 2021 FIVB Men's Volleyball Nations League which continues in Italy's Adriatic resort of Rimini.

Nimir, who led the Netherlands from two sets down to their second win of the tournament, 3-2 (15-25, 22-25, 28-26, 25-23, 19-17) demolished the previous record of 37 points set by China's Jiang Chuan, also against France, in 2018.

The 29-year-old Dutch opposite registered a remarkable attacking efficiency of 65% (37/57) and added 2 blocks and 4 aces for his tally of 43. That was more than half the total of points scored by the Netherlands (109 minus the 33 gifted by France on unforced errors).

France's Theo Faure also made the list of players to have scored 30 points or more in a single VNL match when he collected exactly 30 in the same match. Faure scored off 23 attacks (23/40 for 58%), 3 blocks and 4 aces.

Theo Faure one-on-one with Nimir Tuesday night at the 2021 VNL: 30 points on one side, 43 on the other.

These are the second and third entries in the list of 'Over 30s' at this season's VNL.

Slovenia's Klemen Cebulj had scored 32 points in his team's 3-2 win over Russia earlier in the tournament.
