Tauron Liga starts 2025 calendar with exciting matches

The Polish Women’s Tauron Liga is set to see its first action in 2025 this weekend, with six matches taking place from Friday to Sunday, and the race for the top spot in the standings continues exciting and unpredictable.

League leaders ŁKS Commercecon Łódź (34 points), second-placed KS DevelopRes Rzeszów (33) and third-placed PGE Grot Budowlani Łódź (33) will all be in action and any of them could end the weekend in first place.

Because of their one-point lead over their rivals, Commercecon depend only on their own efforts to continue in first place. They face last-placed Energa MKS Kalisz on road on Sunday, at 16:00 local time (15:00 GMT), and will keep their spot with a 3-0 or 3-1 win.

Commercecon are strong favorites in the encounter, have won 11 of their 13 matches against Energa in the Tauron Liga, including the last five. When the teams met in the first round of the season, the league leaders got a sweep.

Second-placed DevelopRes are expected to have a much bigger challenge this weekend, as they face fourth-placed BKS BOSTIK ZGO Bielsko-Biała on road on Sunday, at 20:30 local time (19:30 GMT). The match is also of great important to Bielsko-Biała, who have 29 points and one game in hand and could definitely join the race for first place with a victory against one of the main contenders for the title.

DevelopRes have been historically dominant against their next opponents, triumphing 19 times in 25 duels. The last three encounters, including the one in the first round of the season, needed all five sets to be decided, though.

Budowlani open the weekend against UNI Opole

Third-placed Budowlani will be the first to get on the court, appearing in the opening match of the 14^th leg on Friday, at 17:30 local time (16:30 GMT), against seventh-placed UNI Opole. The team from Łódź has never lost to their opponents in seven Tauron Liga matches and had no trouble getting a sweep in the first round of the season.

The only match held on Saturday will have eighth-placed Metalkas Pałac Bydgoszcz facing sixth-placed MOYA Radomka Radom at 20:30 local time (19:30 GMT). On Sunday, fifth-placed #VolleyWrocław will host 11^th-placed Sokół & Hagric Mogilno at 13:00 local time (12:00 GMT) while ninth-placed LOTTO Chemik Police will meet tenth-placed ITA TOOLS STAL Mielec six hours later.
