ITA TOOLS STAL Mielec produced a big upset on Monday, the last day of matches in the sixth leg of the second round of the 2025-2026 Tauron Liga, and returned to the qualification zone for the playoffs.

The team went on the road against Polish giants ŁKS Commercecon Łódź and delivered an astounding comeback to triumph 3-1 (25-27, 29-27, 29-27, 25-11) and significantly improve their situation in the standings.

With the three points earned, STAL Mielec jumped two spots up, moving from being the first team outside the qualification zone to seventh place, with 20 points (seven wins, ten losses) - they passed both Metalkas Pałac Bydgoszcz (19 points) and MOYA Radomka Radom (18) on their way up.

This is the fourth time that STAL Mielec enter the qualification zone for the playoffs in the 2025-2026 season. So far, they haven't been able to remain there for more than three legs.

Commercecon, which lost to STAL Mielec for just the second time since 2023, continue in fifth place with 29 points (11 wins, four losses), but see the gap to the league's top three - KS DevelopRes Rzeszów (46), PGE Budowlani Łódź (39) and UNI Opole (36) improve.

Outside hitter Anna Bączyńska was a key piece in STAL Mielec's comeback win, earning the match's MVP award after she scored 22 points (20 kills, two blocks). Opposite Weronika Sobiczewska contributed 19 (14 kills, three aces, two blocks).

Middle blocker Anna Obiała was Commercecon's most productive player with 16 points (14 kills, two blocks), followed by Brazilian outside hitters Mariana Brambilla and Regiane Bidias, who added 15 and 14, respectively.

Also on Monday, tenth-placed Sokół & Hagric Mogilno topped ninth-placed Radomka Radom 3-2 (24-26, 25-22, 25-18, 19-25, 15-7) on the road.

DevelopRes part ways with head coach

Clear at the top of the standings with a seven-point lead and a campaign of 16 wins and one loss, DevelopRes announced the surprising decision of parting ways with head coach Cesar Hernández on Monday. Former Serbian player Jelena Blagojević, who served as an assistant, takes over.

In the last match under Hernández, DevelopRes swept (25-18, 25-15, 25-22) Sokół & Hagric Mogilno on Thursday, in an anticipated match from the eighth leg of the regular season.

Second-placed Budowlani played on Sunday and took eighth-placed Pałac down in straight sets (25-20, 25-19, 25-17). On the same day, third-placed UNI Opole handled fourth-placed BKS BOSTIK ZGO Bielsko-Biała also in three sets (25-19, 25-21, 25-20).

The other match of the week had sixth-placed LOTTO Chemik Police beating 11th-placed #VolleyWrocław in the tie-breaker (22-25, 25-22, 25-13, 12-25, 16-14) on Friday.
