KS DevelopRes Rzeszów claimed the first trophy in play in the 2025-2026 Polish Women's Volleyball season, triumphing at the country's Supercup on Wednesday, in Katowice.

The winners of both the Tauron Liga and the Polish Cup in 2024-2025, the team from Rzeszów faced ŁKS Commercecon Łódź, which were second to them in both tournaments, in front of almost 5,000 fans at the iconic Spodek Arena and prevailed 3-1 (31-29, 25-17, 24-26, 25-23) in the first encounter between the teams this season.

It was the third time DevelopRes earned the Polish Supercup title, repeating what they had done in 2021-2022 and 2022-2023. This is, however, the first time in club history that the Rzeszów side holds all three national trophies in Poland simultaneously.

One of the team's new signings for the 2025-2026 season, experienced Belgian middle blocker Laura Heyrman was a difference-maker for DevelopRes in the Supercup, producing a match-high 19 points (15 kills, four blocks) and earning the match's MVP award.

Polish national team outside hitter Julita Piasecka, with 15 points (eight kills, four aces, three blocks), Ukrainian middle blocker Svitlana Dorsman, with 14 (ten kills, four blocks), and Dutch outside hitter Marrit Jasper, with 13 (11 kills, two blocks), also got to double digits in scoring.

"I think that winning the first set after they made a push at the end was key for us," setter Katarzyna Wenerska said. "The second set was always in control, and maybe we slowed down a little bit in the third, but they also improved a lot and started playing very good defense. We still made too many mistakes in the fourth set, but we were able to continue focused and are very happy with the first trophy of the season."

Commercecon, who were attempting to win the Supercup for the first time after taking silver twice, had Brazilian outside hitter Regiane Bidias leading their scoring efforts with 14 points (13 kills, one block), two more than middle blocker Anna Obiała and Ukrainian opposite Anastasiia Hryshchuk.

"I believe that if the first set had gone our way, the match would have been completely different," Obiała reflected. "But at the end, it was a wasted opportunity. The second set was really bad for us, but I'm glad that we fought back and kept believing until the end. I thought we played at a really high level for most of the time, and we shouldn't be ashamed because we did everything we could."

Back to the Tauron Liga on Friday

DevelopRes won't have much time to enjoy their victory as they will be back on the court in the Tauron Liga on Friday. Currently sitting at the top of the standings with ten points (three wins, one loss), they will face eighth-placed LOTTO Chemik Police on the road at 17:30 local time (16:30 UTC). Ranked fifth, Commercecon will have a few more days to regroup as they play 11th-placed Sokół & Hagric Mogilno at home on Monday, at 20:30 (19:30 UTC), in the last match of the fifth leg of the regular season.
