KS DevelopRes Rzeszów didn’t waste the opportunity to climb to the top of the standings of the 2024-2025 Polish Women’s Tauron Liga and is set to end the 12th leg of the regular season, which marks the start of the second round in the country, in first place.

With then-leaders ŁKS Commercecon Łódź out of action this weekend as their match against #VolleyWrocław was postponed to December 30, DevelopRes had the opportunity to pass them, which they did, now appearing with 30 points to their rivals’ 28.

DevelopRes were at home on Friday, in the opening match of the weekend in Poland, and took care of business, beating MOYA Radomka Radom, a team that had pushed them to five sets in the first round, 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-14) in front of their fans.

The new Tauron Liga leaders had three players getting to double digits in scoring in outside hitter Monika Fedusio, who led the team with 19 points, all in kills, Brazilian opposite Sabrina Machado, who produced 13 (ten kills, three blocks), and Polish national team middle blocker Agnieszka Korneluk, who tallied ten, with six kills and four blocks. Setter Katarzyna Wenerska was selected as the match’s MVP.

Croatian outside hitter Laura Miloš was Radomka’s leading scorer with nine points (seven kills, one block, one ace).

Budowlani win, but continue in third place

Third-placed PGE Grot Budowlani Łódź could also pass Commercecon this weekend and move to second, but the team wasted the opportunity, needing all five sets to beat 11th-placed ITA TOOLS STAL Mielec 3 -2 (25-20, 23-25, 20-25, 25-21, 15-4) at home, dropping one point. They continue in third place, now with 27 points.

Budowlani's international stars came up big for them, with Serbian outside hitter Jelena Blagojević scoring 21 points (20 kills, one block), Slovenian middle blocker Saša Planinšec registering 18 (13 kills, five blocks) and Italian opposite Terry Enweonwu producing 12 (ten kills, two blocks). Mielec had outside hitter Aleksandra Adamczyk with 20 points, opposite Oliwia Sieradzka with 18 and outside hitter Emilia Mucha with 17.

Following Saturday’s duels, the Tauron Liga will continue on Sunday with two more matches – ninth-placed LOTTO Chemik Police will face 12th-placed Energa MKS Kalisz at 19:00 local time (18:00 GMT) and eighth-placed Metalkas Pałac Bydgoszcz will host sixth-placed UNI Opole at 20:30 local time (19:30 GMT).
