As the two Łódź teams entered the match tied in points, Commercecon now have a three-point lead over their rivals, getting to 28 (nine wins, two losses). Budowlani, who have 25 (eight wins, two losses), had one match postponed and will play 12 times before the end of the regular season, one more than their rivals.
Polish national team outside hitters Zuzanna Górecka and Natalia Mędrzyk led Commercecon’s victory with outstanding performances. While the 24-year-old Górecka topped all scorers with 16 points (12 kills, three blocks, one ace), the 32-year-old Mędrzyk, a Paris Olympian, registered 15 (14 kills, one ace) and took home the match’s MVP award.
“We certainly didn’t expect the match to turn out this way,” Górecka commented. “We prepared to deliver a very strong performance and I’m really proud of the team because we were able to execute everything we planned. We were coming from a very bad performance against Bielsko-Biała and we knew that we needed to remain focused from start to finish because a quick moment in which we slowed down could cause us problems.”
