After nearing the bottom of the standings of the Polish Women’s Tauron Liga, defending champions Lotto Chemik Police continue to move up and are now inside the qualification zone for the playoffs.

The team that two weeks ago ranked 11th and was in a five-match winless streak secured back-to-back victories and ended the eighth leg of the regular season in eighth place, with nine points, significantly changing their situation in the table.

On Friday, Chemik gave the second consecutive step forward in their recovery journey, securing a solid 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-10) comeback home win over sixth-placed #VolleyWrocław to move up from ninth to eighth.

The defending champions had multiple players delivering strong performances against #VolleyWrocław, most notably team captain and outside hitter Martyna Grajber-Nowakowska, who produced 14 points, with 12 kills, one block and one ace.

Fellow outside hitter Anna Fiedorowicz was the match’s top scorer, with 19 (14 kills, four aces and one block), while middle blocker Dominika Pierzchała (12) and Ukrainian opposite Viktoriia Lokhmanchuk (11) also got to double digits in scoring.

VolleyWrocław got 18 points from Cuban outside hitter Diaris Pérez, with opposite Weronika Gierszewska and middle blocker Anna Lewandowska adding 15 and 13, respectively.

Top four teams triumph

The four best teams in the Tauron Liga also triumphed over the weekend, increasing their separation from the rest of the pack. Leaders ŁKS Commercecon Łódź played on Sunday and got to 22 points (seven wins, one loss) after their 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 23-25, 25-27) road win over seventh-placed MOYA Radomka Radom.

The only undefeated team in the country, KS DevelopRes Rzeszów continue in second place, now with 21 points (eight wins), after they topped tenth-placed ITA TOOLS STAL Mielec 3-0 (34-32, 25-16, 25-23) on Monday.

On the same day, third-placed PGE Grot Budowlani Łódź got to 19 points (six wins, one loss) after they overcame 11th-placed Metalkas Pałac Bydgoszcz 3-1 (25-22, 19-25, 25-10, 25-20) in front of their home fans.

Ranked fourth, BKS BOSTIK ZGO Bielsko-Biała also played on Monday. The team handed ninth-placed Energa MKS Kalisz a 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-23) victory and now has 18 points (six wins, one loss) in the standings.

The eighth leg of the regular season in Poland also had fifth-placed UNI Opole topping 12th-placed Sokół & Hagric Mogilno 3-0 (25-14, 25-8, 25-19) on Monday.

The ninth leg of the regular season will have matches going from Thursday to Sunday, including the highly-anticipated duel between DevelopRes and Commercecon, on Saturday.
