Budowlani and Bielsko-Biała triumph ahead of Monday’s encounter

Set to meet in what should be a critical match in the 2024-2025 Polish Women’s Tauron Liga on Monday, PGE Grot Budowlani Łódź and BKS BOSTIK ZGO Bielsko-Biała secured wins this weekend, ahead of the anticipated encounter.

With the results earned in the 13^th leg of the regular season, the teams will enter Monday’s duel, which was postponed from the seventh leg and is set to start at 17:30 local time (16:30), separated by just one point – Budowlani are third, with 30, while Bielsko-Biała rank fourth, with 29. Furthermore, the winners are guaranteed to pass ŁKS Commercecon Łódź, who have 31 points, for second place in the standings.

Budowlani had the smoothest ride among the two this weekend as the team from Łódź played on the road against 12^th-placed Energa MKS Kalisz on Thursday and secured a clean 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-18) victory.

Outside hitter Karolina Drużkowska led the team with 14 points (ten kills, two blocks, two aces), followed by Slovenian middle blocker Saša Planinšec, with 11, and Serbian outside hitter Jelena Blagojević, with ten.

Bielsko-Biała also played on Thursday, but had to go through five sets to secure a 3-2 (25-17, 18-25, 21-25, 30-28, 15-9) road win over seventh-placed UNI Opole.

They had five players getting to double digits in scoring in outside hitters Julita Piasecka (21) and Martyna Borowczak (16), middle blockers Marta Orzyłowska (14) and Joanna Pacak (11) and opposite Kertu Laak (13).

DevelopRes and Commercecon also win

Ranked first and second in the Tauron Liga, KS DevelopRes Rzeszów and Commercecon also triumphed in the 13^th leg. The league leaders defeated 11^th-placed Sokół & Hagric Mogilno 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-21) on Friday, while Commercecon overcame eighth-placed Metalkas Pałac Bydgoszcz 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-12) on Saturday.

The weekend in Poland also had sixth-placed MOYA Radomka Radom topping ninth-placed LOTTO Chemik Police 3-2 (25-13, 25-21, 20-25, 20-25, 15-10) and tenth-placed ITA TOOLS STAL Mielec beating fifth-placed #VolleyWrocław 3-1 (25-16, 20-25, 25-15, 25-17).
