• Watch the national leagues live on VBTV

With the season just beginning, Poland's TAURON Liga Kobiet is the best option to follow this weekend, when the 12 women's teams that compete in one of the most traditional national leagues in the world play their season openers between Friday and Sunday.

Here are three matches worth watching:

NETLAND MKS Kalisz vs PGE Budowlani Łódź

When: Friday, October 2, at 17:30 local time (15:30 GMT)
Why: Reigning champions Budowlani start their title defense on the road against Kalisz, who just returned to the country's elite but have a strong tradition in the league, having won the title four times. It will be the first opportunity to watch the new-look Budowlani, who signed Polish national team setter Katarzyna Wenerska, brought veteran outside hitter Martyna Grajber-Nowakowska back to Poland and maintained Swiss opposite Maja Storck and libero Justyna Łysiak, while Kalisz added some international players to boost the core that earned promotion, such as Cuban opposite Yalain González, Serbian outside hitter Isidora Rodić and American outside hitter Jaidyn Blanchfield.

Metalkas Pałac Bydgoszcz vs BKS ZGO Bielsko-Biała

When: Saturday, October 3, at 15:00 local time (13:00 GMT)
Why: A semifinalist in the last three seasons, Bielsko-Biała want to start their campaign on the right foot and make a push to win their ninth overall title, and their first since 2009-2010. Estonian opposite Kertu Laak continues to lead the team, which made a couple of interesting offseason additions in setter Angelika Gajer and Dutch outside hitter Iris Vos. A TAURON Liga Kobiet champion in 1992-1993, Pałac are far removed from their days of glory and feature a roster entirely composed of Polish players, uniting names like experienced middle blocker Marta Pol and up-and-coming opposite Julia Hewelt, signed from LOTTO Chemik Police.

ŁKS Commercecon Łódź vs KS DevelopRes Rzeszów

When: Sunday, October 4, at 18:00 local time (16:00 GMT)
Why: The opening weekend ends with what should be an exciting Derby, reuniting teams that combined to produce 16 podium appearances and three titles in the last ten seasons and clashed in the finals in 2024-2025. Both teams went through changes in the offseason, with Commercecon signing two Olympians - Dutch opposite Elles Dambrink and Polish middle blocker Magdalena Jurczyk -, while DevelopRes added American opposite Taylor Mims and Polish national team setter Alicja Grabka.
