Featuring 12 teams and nine players who helped the Polish national team finish fourth in the European Championship last month and qualify for the 2027 World Cup, the tournament is among the most competitive national leagues on the planet, having had different champions in each of the last four seasons.

The Polish League also has one of the longest traditions in women's volleyball, first played almost a century ago, in 1928-1929, and it draws big crowds and demands close attention from the sport's fans in the country.

The Teams

The eighth-placed team in 2025-2026, LOTTO Chemik Police were absolutely dominant in the Polish League from 2013-2014 to 2023-2024, winning eight of the ten editions of the tournament held in the period.

They tie for the second-most successful team in league history with BKS ZGO Bielsko-Biała, who were fourth last season and also have eight trophies, the last of which was won in 2009-2010. They both trail AZS AWF Warszawa, which dominated the league for the first three decades, winning an impressive 22 titles, and are currently in the country's second division.

Two teams have been perennial contenders over the last decade: ŁKS Commercecon Łódź, who made it to the podium seven times and won two golds in the period (and have three total), and KS DevelopRes Rzeszów, who were part of the top three on nine occasions and ranked first in 2024-2025.

Three other teams participating in the 2026-2027 TAURON Liga Kobiet have also topped the podium in the league: NETLAND MKS Kalisz, who return to the country's top division and have four golds; Metalkas Palace Bydgoszcz, who triumphed in 1992-1993; and defending champions PGE Budowlani Łódź.

The teams competing in the Polish League who are still looking for their first victories are #VolleyWrocław, ITA TOOLS Stal Mielec, MOYA Radomka Radom, Sokół & Hagric Mogilno and UNI Opole.

The Stars

While many of Poland's national team stars currently play abroad, nine of the 14 players who represented the country at the European Championship last month will be in action in the TAURON Liga Kobiet, split into five teams.

Commercecon features middle blockers Anna Obiała, Sonia Stefanik and Magdalena Jurczyk, defending champions Budowlani have setter Katarzyna Wenerska and libero Justyna Łysiak, DevelopRes count on setter Alicja Grabka and outside hitter Julia Piasecka, Chemik have middle blocker Maja Koput and UNI Opole rely on libero Klaudia Łyduch.

The Polish League has attracted many international players, too, with over 40 foreigners in the squads in 2026-2027. The most popular names include Dutch opposite Elles Dambrink (Commercecon), outside hitters Marrit Jasper (DevelopRes) and middle blocker Iris Vos (Bielsko-Biała), American opposite Taylor Mims (DevelopRes), Ukrainian opposite Anastasiia Hryshchuk (#VolleyWrocław), Estonian opposite Kertu Laak (Bielsko-Biała) and Swiss opposite Maja Storck (Budowlani).

Competition Format

Each team plays 22 matches during the regular season, facing each of its 11 opponents at home and away. At the end of the regular season, the eight best-ranked teams advance to the playoffs, and the team that finishes 12th is relegated to the Polish second division.

The quarterfinal and semifinal series are held in a best-of-three format, while the final and the third-place series are held in a best-of-five format.
