This weekend’s men’s Daido Life SV.League program in Japan offers four double headers on Saturday and Sunday, January 3 and 4. Two of them will feature top-five teams in the current standings. Another one will settle issues at the bottom end of the table.

In the most interesting match-up, JTEKT Stings Aichi will host Osaka Bluteon. The two teams stand next to each other in the table. Osaka are in second place on a 13-3 win-loss ratio and 37 points, while Aichi are running third on 11-5 and 33, so if JTEKT Stings secure the full six points from this double header, they will overtake their opponents to the runner-up position. Bluteon, however, won both matches of the first double header with Aichi this season in November, a 3-1 and a 3-2 road victories. They will also arrive at the Okazaki Central Park Gymnasium with the confidence of silver medalists of last month’s FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship in Brazil. Both teams’ rosters feature constellations of top-caliber athletes. French opposite Stephen Boyer and outside hitters Torey DeFalco from the United States and Ricardo Lucarelli from Brazil headline the Aichi squad, while libero Tomohiro Yamamoto, opposite Yuji Nishida, French setter Antoine Brizard and Cuban outside Miguel Lopez are some of the stars available to Finnish coach Tuomas Sammelvuo on Osaka’s side.

Both games this weekend will serve off at 14:05 local time (05:05 UTC).

Table leaders and defending national champions Suntory Sunbirds Osaka are set to welcome Tokyo Great Bears to the Asue Arena Osaka on Saturday and Sunday at 13:05 (04:05). Suntory Sunbirds occupy the top of the standings on 15-1 and 44, while Tokyo, featuring the number nine men’s volleyball player on Volleyball World’s 2025 chart, Slovenian middle blocker Jan Kozamernik, are running fifth on 7-7 and 20. In early November, Suntory Sunbirds achieved two home wins over their opponents from the capital, by 3-2 and 3-0.

Nippon Steel Sakai Blazers and Toray Arrows Shizuoka will meet in a double header that could shake things up near the lower end of the table. The hosts from Sakai currently trail bottom, in 10th place on 3-13 and 8, while Toray Arrows stand in eighth place on 3-11 and 10. Saturday’s game at the Nippon Steel Sakai Gymnasium will get underway at 15:05 (06:05), while the one on Sunday will start two hours earlier, at 13:05 (05:05).

The team in between them in the table, Nagano Tridents, running ninth on 3-13 and 13, can expect a tough journey to Wolfdogs Nagoya, who are in fourth place on 11-5 and 31. The two matches will take place at the Entrio at 14:35 (05:35) on Saturday and at 13:35 (04:35) on Sunday. When Nagoya visited Nagano in early November, they brought home two victories, the first one in straight sets, and the second in five.
