The three points collected with the victory took SESI to second place in the standings, with 33 points (11 wins, three losses). They can, however, drop back to fourth if Osasco São Cristovão Saúde and Gerdau Minas both win their matches on Wednesday. Fluminense, who entered the court in a six-match winning streak and hadn’t lost in almost two months, are sixth with 27 points (nine wins, five losses).
SESI got the solid victory without two of their main offensive weapons as while Brazilian Olympic medalist opposite Lorenne Teixeira was subbed off during the first set and only contributed two points, Venezuelan outside hitter Roslandy Acosta, who is recovering from an injury, came into the court only for the final point of the match.
Both their substitutes got the job done for the team, though, as outside hitter Thais ‘Thaisinha’ Souza topped all scorers with 17 points (15 kills, one block, one ace) and opposite Bruna Moraes produced 16 points (all in kills) off the bench and took home the MVP award.
“This winning streak has been of great importance for us because the top four teams in the league are all very close in the standings,” Moraes commented. “I’m happy that I got to come in and help the team. Even though I’m not starting, I’ve been working very hard and I always tell our coach that I’m ready to help when the team needs me.”
