Playing at home for the first time in the Brazilian Women’s Superliga 2024-2025, Osasco São Cristovão Saúde pleased their sold-out crowd at the José Liberatti stadium with a comeback victory over Flor de Ypê Paulistano Barueri on Friday to secure the team’s second victory.
Facing the same opponents they met in the semifinals of the São Paulo State Championship less than a month ago, Osasco started trailing, but came back to secure a 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-12) win and get to six points in the standings.
The Brazilian Men’s and Women’s Superliga matches are available live for VBTV subscribers located in Brazil.
Missing Olympic champion outside hitter Natália Pereira, who had a minor knee injury, Osasco relied on veteran opposite Tiffany Abreu, who came off the bench and led all scorers with 20 points, all in kills.
The team’s three international players also had strong performances, with Venezuelan outside hitter Nelmaira Valdez delivering 16 points, Azeri opposite Polina Rahimova contributing another 13 and American middle blocker Callie Schwarzenbach registering eight, including four blocks, and taking home the MVP award.
“I’m very happy with our second win,” Callie commented. “It’s always nice to play at home and feel the energy of our fans and that makes us stronger for the journey, which is very long and just started.”
