Flamengo continue at the top of the standings with 34 points (12 wins, one loss), but could see the gap to second-placed Gerdau Minas, who have 29 and are yet to play, drop to two. The two points collected with the victory made Fluminense move one spot up in the standings, going from sixth to fifth, with 21 (nine wins, four losses).
High-scoring opposite Ariane Pinto carried Fluminense's offense in the Derby, producing a match-high 31 points (26 kills, five blocks), and earned the match's MVP award. Middle blockers Lara Nobre and Lays Freitas and outside hitter Amanda Campos contributed 11 points each.
"It's a Derby, and we knew it was going to be a huge match," Ariane reflected. "We were coming from a tough result, in a match in which we made way too many errors, and one of our goals for today was to cut them down, as we were going to play a very good team, which was undefeated for a reason. Fluminense is known as the 'Team of Warriors', and I think that today we honored that nickname. I'm happy to see us being able to bounce back after some difficult results."
