The Italian men’s volleyball SuperLega Credem Banca will open the new year with the six matches of the 14th leg on January 3 and 4. One of the two games on Saturday will offer a remake of last season’s final showdown between Itas Trentino Trento and Cucine Lube Civitanova.

Defending national champions Itas Trentino Trento will welcome the still reigning national cup holders Cucine Lube Civitanova to a sold-out BTS Arena on Saturday at 18:00 local time (17:00 UTC). Trentino lead the current standings on 32 points and an 11-2 win-loss record, while Lube are in fifth place on 25 and 8-5. In addition, this clash will set the number one and the number two players in Volleyball World’s 2025 chart – Alessandro Michieletto and Aleksandar Nikolov – against one another on the court, just as they were in last year’s FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship final.

In their last matches for 2025, the Italy Cup quarterfinals, Trentino shut out Vero Volley Monza, while Lube lost at Sir Susa Scai Perugia prematurely ending their campaign to defend the trophy. While Trentino won last year’s best-of-five championship series by three victories to one, Lube celebrated a four-set victory when they last met in October in Civitanova Marche. The all-time head-to-head record between the two clubs stands at 58-50 Lube’s way.

“We finished the year in the best possible way, qualifying for the Coppa Italia Final Four, and we enjoyed some rest before the new year's matches. The desire to win is definitely there. We'll be back to the court on January 3 for another tough match against Civitanova, which we want to win.” Flavio Gualberto, middle blocker of Itas Trentino Trento
“We're very disappointed with the Coppa Italia elimination, but the season is still long and we must work with confidence towards our next important goals.” Mattia Boninfante, setter of Cucine Lube Civitanova

The 14th leg will open earlier on Saturday, with a game between Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza and MA Acqua San Bernardo Cuneo at the Banca Sport hall, serving off at 17:00 (16:00). The hosts from Piacenza are currently seventh in the table on 23 and 7-6, while the SuperLega rookies from Cuneo occupy 10th place on 9 and 2-11. November’s game between the two teams in Cuneo produced a five-set battle, which Gas Sales won in the tie-breaker.

Sunday’s program will open at 16:00 (15:00) with world and European champions Sir Susa Scai Perugia entertaining Allianz Milan at the Barton Energy hall. Sir are running second in the table, on 32 and 11-2, separated from leaders Trentino on set ratios. Allianz are in sixth place on 23 and 8-5. Sir are on a four-game winning streak in the head-to-head series with Allianz, including December’s straight-set victory in Milan.

Next, Sonepar Padova Padua will host Valsa Group Modena at the Kioene Arena on Sunday at 17:00 (16:00). Padova stand ninth on 11 and 4-9, while Modena take fourth place on 28 and 9-4. November’s game between these two squads in Modena went 3-0 the home team’s way.

Rana Verona will visit Vero Volley Monza at the Opiquad Arena on Sunday at 18:00 (17:00). Verona are just a point below the two leaders, in third place on 31 and 11-2, Vero Volley stand at the very bottom of the playoff zone, in eighth place on 12 and 4-9. When they met in Verona in November, the hosts swept the match in straight sets.

At the same starting time on Sunday, Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina will welcome Cisterna Volley to the Savelli hall for a fierce battle between the bottom two teams in the standings. Winless Grottazzolina, currently occupying the relegation zone on 2 and 0-13, will be desperate to gain the three points from this match and narrow the distance to Cisterna, who are just above them, in 13th place on 6 and 3-10. Cisterna, on the other hand, will, of course, do their best to widen that gap in order to breathe a little more easily in the weeks to come. One of the points on Grottazzolina’s record came from their trip to Cisterna in October, when the two side battled it out in five sets.
