The 16^th leg of the Italian men’s volleyball SuperLega Credem Banca is about to unfold midweek with five games on Wednesday, January 14, and one on Thursday, January 15. All matches, with the exception of Wednesday’s opener between Allianz Milan and Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza, will serve off at 20:30 local time (19:30 UTC), highlighted by a clash between fourth-placed Valsa Group Modena and third-placed Itas Trentino Trento.

Valsa Group Modena will host Itas Trentino Trento at the Panini hall in one of Wednesday’s games. After they lost to Sir Susa Scai Perugia and Rana Verona, respectively, over the weekend, the two teams are now neighbors in the current standings. Modena are fourth on 31 points and a 10-5 win-loss record, and even with a three-point victory over Trentino, they will not be able to surpass their opponents, who stand third on 36 and 12-3. December’s SuperLega match between the two opponents in Trento was won by the home team in straight sets. In fact, the last time Modena managed to defeat the club from Trento dates back to December 2023, after which Trentino have been on a seven-match winning streak in the head-to-head series. There have been 90 official matches between the two clubs in a 25-year-long rivalry, with Trentino leading by 55-35 in wins.

Wednesday’s opening match at 19:30 (18:30) will also offer a clash between teams from the playoff zone. Allianz Milan, placed seventh on 26 and 9-6, will welcome Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza, standing fifth on 29 and 9-6, to the Allianz Cloud. This is a game that could change the order of the two teams in the table, and this will happen if the home team takes the full three points. In October’s match between Gas Sales and Allianz, the hosts from Piacenza celebrated a four-set victory.

Table leaders Sir Susa Scai Perugia will travel to SuperLega rookies MA Acqua San Bernardo Cuneo on Wednesday. The reigning club world and European champions top the standings on 38 and 13-2, while Cuneo are running just below the cut-off line for the playoffs, in ninth place on 12 and 3-12. Sir swept the first and only previous official meeting between the two sides in November at home in straight sets.

Second-placed Rana Verona will entertain Sonepar Padova Padua at the Agsm AIM hall on Wednesday. Verona have the same win-loss record of 13-2 as leaders Sir, but are two points behind them in the standings on 36. Padova occupy 10^th place on 11 and 4-11. The game in Padua played in November was resolved in four sets in favor of Verona.

Cucine Lube Civitanova will visit their neighbors Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina for a Wednesday game at the Savelli hall. On 28 and 9-6, Lube stand in sixth place, while Grottazzolina are stuck at the bottom of the table, in 12^th place on 4 and 1-14, and for them the threat of relegation is getting more and more imminent. The first match between the two teams this season, played in Civitanova Marche in October, went to four sets and was won by Lube.

The leg will close on Thursday with a game between Cisterna Volley and Vero Volley Monza. The survival of the hosts from Cisterna Latina in the SuperLega is also under threat as they are placed just above the relegation zone in the table, in 11^th place on 7 and 3-12. Vero Volley, on the other hand, are within the playoff zone, in eighth place, but only five points higher that Cisterna, on 12 and 4-11. November’s encounter between the two teams in Monza unfolded in a five-set battle that went the way of Cisterna.
