Sir Susa Vim Perugia snatched the fourth men’s national cup trophy in the club’s history. On Sunday afternoon in Bologna, they celebrated a victory over Mint Vero Volley Monza in the Del Monte Coppa Italia final and were crowned as cup laureates for the fourth time, after 2018, 2019 and 2022. This was already the third trophy of the season for the club from Perugia, after they won the Supercoppa Italiana and the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship. And just like at December’s tournament in India, Ukrainian star Oleh Plotnytskyi earned the Most Valuable Player award.

The scoring distribution on the winners’ side during the final was nicely spread, with four players reaching the double digits. Polish outside hitter Kamil Semeniuk led the Block Devils with 18 points, including two kill blocks. He registered a 59% success rate in attack. Tunisian opposite Wassim Ben Tara added another 16 points. Brazilian middle blocker Flavio Gualberto impressed with a 92% success rate in offence and added three kill blocks to finish with 15 points. Ukrainian outside Oleh Plotnytskyi put away 14 points, including two aces and a kill block.
Vero Volley’s Canadian opposite Arthur Szwarc produced a match-high 22 points, including three blocks. Middle blocker Gianluca Galassi shone from the serving line with four aces, including the first set winner. He and Canadian outside Eric Loeppky finished with 12 points each.
Both semifinals in Bologna on Saturday offered spectacular five-set battles.
In the first one, Vero Volley celebrated a upset of heavy favourites Itas Trentino Trento, reigning national champions and SuperLega table leaders. Without their injured Japanese star Ran Takahashi on the court, they came back from a set down twice in the match to advance to their first Coppa Italia final in history. Eric Loeppky and Trentino’s Luxembourgish opposite Kamil Rychlicki shared the top scorer honours of the match with 21 points each. Loeppky’s match record included two aces, two kill blocks and a 55% success rate in attack, while Rychlicki had three aces and three kill blocks to his name. Another four players reached the double digits on Vero Volley’s side: Gianluca Galassi with 16, Arthur Szwarc with 16, Canadian outside Stephen Maar with 13 and middle Gabriele Di Martino with 10. Trentino’s outsides Daniele Lavia and Alessandro Michieletto finished with 17 and 13 points, respectively.
