After inconsistent performances at the start of the season, which led the team to only four wins in their first 12 matches, Monza have found their form in the last month, and won their four most recent encounters. Their campaign of four victories in six matches is the second best in the second half of the Italian League, behind only leaders Sir Safety Susa Perugia's undefeated run.
Monza have been in even stronger form over the last two weeks as they topped two strong contenders for the SuperLega title including defending champions Cucine Lube Civitanova and star-studded Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza.
Their recent form has placed Monza in a strong position to qualify for the playoffs as the team from Northern Italy have climbed all the way to sixth place in the standings with eight wins and 24 points. The best eight teams in the regular season will compete in the postseason in Italy.
Last weekend’s results were extremely positive for the team’s playoff aspirations. Monza overtook Allianz Millano (23 points) and Top Volley Cisterna (23) to move from eighth to sixth place, but also closed the gap to fourth-placed Lube (26 points) and fifth-placed Piacenza (25).
Canadian outside hitter Stephen Maar, who scored a team-high 19 points against Piacenza, has been one of the team’s standouts in their most recent matches.
“After this win, we need to get back to work and prepare for the trip to Trento in the best possible way,” he said after the match. “We’re in a good moment right now and everyone is playing well. That gives us the confidence and positivity for the upcoming matches.”

Other players who have made their mark in Monza’s good spell are libero Filippo Federici, who ranks second in the Italian League in digs (118), and outside hitter Uladzislau Davyskiba, who’s third in aces with 29.
Trentino will enter the match with a boost of confidence after they defeated Lube 3-1 on Saturday and added three points to their season total after back-to-back losses to Piacenza and Cisterna.
The side from Trento won the encounter between the two clubs in the first half of the season in straight sets, and has also emerged victorious in the last six matches between them and Monza.
