Simone Anzani

Simone Anzani did not have to think too hard before accepting to extend his contract with Cucine Lube Civitanova for another three seasons. “It was an easy choice for me. I am with the perfect team at the right time,” the Italian middle blocker said upon signing up to stay with the club through the 2024-2025 season.

Anzani is currently in his third season with Lube. He was on the squad that won the trophy at the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Club World Championship in Brazil and he was on the squad that added a silver in December’s 2021 edition of the competition. Since joining the club from Civitanova Marche, the 2.03m-tall athlete, who will turn 30 next week, has also won the 2021 Italian championship gold and the national cup trophy twice, in 2020 and in 2021.

Anzani is also a key member of the Italian national team. The Tokyo 2020 Olympian made a solid contribution to the CEV European Championship gold they won in September. The middle blocker’s national team career also includes a 2015 FIVB Volleyball World Cup silver, a 2014 FIVB Volleyball World League bronze and a 2015 EuroVolley bronze.

“When I realised that there was an opportunity to wear the red-and-white shirt again, everything happened naturally. We are talking about one of the best clubs, even internationally, which in recent years has won practically everything. The renewal is a source of pride for me. It means that I have left my mark. I intend to do this in the near future too. Those who join this large family know that the pressure is great and that to alleviate it you have to win titles. At Lube it is not important to participate; it is essential to pursue victory by giving everything.” Simone Anzani, middle blocker of Cucine Lube Civitanova

After renewing his contract with Lube, Simone Anzani ‘celebrated’ with five spiking points and a 56% success rate towards Sunday’s 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-21) victory at Consar RCM Ravenna in Italy’s SuperLega Credem Banca.
