The Pala Barton attendance record was broken on Sunday, when reigning club world champions and winners of the Italian national cup and super cup Sir Susa Vim Perugia welcomed SuperLega Credem Banca table leaders and defending champions Itas Trentino Trento in a clash between the top two teams in the current standings, but a match without any practical impact.

Despite the fact that first-placed Trentino and second-placed Sir had already locked their spots in the final regular season table and in the playoff bracket, a record-high 4,918 fans flocked to the sold-out Pala Barton in Perugia to enjoy the big game of the penultimate regular season leg, which the inspired home team ended up winning by .

It was the first-ever match played in front of a full-capacity crowd at the Pala Barton. The nearly five thousand spectators created a fantastic atmosphere for the big game and the two stellar squads on the court thanked them with a fantastic performance.

“I like this number. 4,918 is a high number, but also a new record to try to beat in the future. It was a match that didn't affect the standings and seeing all these people, all this enthusiasm and, above all, a very active and engaging crowd makes us proud. I'm happy, I won't deny it. The full stadium means that we are doing something that interests people and makes us understand that we are working well,” said Sir’s club president Gino Sirci.

“It is a sign of attachment, loyalty and humility of these people, who have won in the past, but wanted to be present in the stands to cheer in a game that was a great match, but with virtually no meaning in terms of the standings. I think there is something to learn from these three values, the coach first and the whole team behind it,” head coach Angelo Lorenzetti commented.

“It's great to play at a stadium like this. I hope it's just a taster in view of the playoffs - we will need such a fiery PalaBarton,” Sir’s star setter Simone Giannelli added.

The regular season will end on March 3, when all six games of the 22^nd leg will be played.
