Wilfredo Leon in receiving duties Sunday evening, as he leads Perugia to a four-set win over Cisterna in the Italian men's league.

Just a week after taking down defending champions Cucine Lube Civitanova, Sir Safety Conad Perugia have confirmed their leadership in Italy's men's league with a 3-1 (25-27, 25-19, 25-10, 25-19) win on the road over Top Volley Cisterna as Round 14 - the first in the second half of the Regular Season - got underway on Sunday.

After dropping the tight first set, Perugia came back ruthless with Cuba-born Pole Wilfredo Leon scoring a match high of 28 points, including an attacking efficiency of 63% (22/35) plus four aces and two blocks, to rightly earn the MVP of the match award.

Perugia, who extended their winning streak to eight matches (including the European Champions League) remain six points clear of Lube, despite the latter's 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-20) sweep at home of Kioene Padova.

Argentina setter Luciano De Cecco was named MVP of the match, with Puerto Rico's Gabi Garcia scoring 12 points (including three aces) for Lube as Ivan Zaytsev and Cuba's Marlon Yant added another 10 each.

However, the match high came from Mattia Bottolo who bagged 13 points for Padova.

In the only other match of Round 13 to be played on Sunday, Verona Volley staged an incredible comeback from two sets down to edge past Itas Trentino 3-2 (13-25, 29-31, 25-20, 25-10, 15-12) who lost ground in the race to keep up with the table leaders.

Verona could have tied the score at 1-1, but failed to convert as many as six set points in the second before Trentino finished it off on the first chance they got.

With 20 points to his name, Slovenia's Rok Mozic led the scoring for Verona and was named MVP of the match, as Denmark's Mads Kyed Jensen added another 18 - though key to the win was Verona's blocking that yielded 21 points (to Tentino's 10), including six by Lorenzo Cortesia and five by France's Jonas Aguenier.

Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia will host Gioiella Prisma Taranto on 20 January 2022 for Round 13.

The matches Leo Shoes PerkinElmer Modena v Vero Volley Monza and Consar RCM Ravenna v Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza have been postponed for a date yet to be confirmed, due to positive coronavirus cases.
